Add block to top, above previous blocks

I have many jobs where adding the block to the top instead of the bottom would help my client. And, from the forums, many other people want this functionality. Does anyone know if 5.7 will have this functionality?

Adding blocks in 5.7 will be drag & drop, so you can insert anywehere.

@mlocati developed a pull for 5.6 to allow inserting blocks anywhere. It worked very well, but unfortunately got rejected because '5.7 will be doing that anyway'. If you look back through the pull requests, you may still be able to patch it into a custom core.

Thank you John, so glad to hear that there will be more flexibility with where you can initially put blocks. You can see where this has been a problem since inception? 100 news events and having to move the event blockfrom the bottom to the top. Ugg. 100 home page blog entries on the same page and having to move the new entry block from the bottom to the top. Ugg. I'm going to skip the patches, they looked a little complicated, even though I do modify files by putting them in the root folders, this approach seemed to have too much potential for something going wrong. I will wait for 5.7.
