Back up and restore in 5.7
Permalink
Hi there,
Any news on Back up and Restore for 5.7? Just lost a heartbreaking 50 hours of work using the Fundamental theme. I'm not a techie and always rely on the backup and restore in my 5.6 sites.
Any news on this important feature or advice offered would be much appreciated.
Many thanks,
David

What kind of work did you lose? Normally, this can't be the case when just using a theme..?
Hi,
I lost all my front page images which were multiple. The Main area just disappeared when I approved the version of one edit. Don't know how it happened but it went back to an early version of the Theme.

After some hard work with a colleague, managed to re-install all the images from scratch! However, if anybody can offer any advice as to how to back up in the meantime, until 5.7 has the facility, I would appreciate any input.
Best regards,

Two core contributors are working on a backup add-on for 5.7. It should be high quality, offer many options, and be easy to use, but it likely won't be ready until February.
In the meantime, if you are going to build your site on a live server, you should be taking periodic backups of your site using the web host control panel tools. I understand that this might seem intimidating, but the alternative of losing many hours of work should be incentive to do it.
I am not sure what host you use, but cPanel is common. Here is a link to cPanel backup instructions. A web search and your web host should offer you more information.

Hi there,
Many thanks for this answer and advice. I am implementing your recommendation as I have had the same problem again with losing work. I had done a zip back up this time on to my hard drive.
For some reason with Fundamental there is a glitch with the Approve Version which then wipes the Home Page leaving access to the navigation to inner pages impossible. Have passed this on to c5Hub, the designers of Fundamental.
Many thanks for your help,
David
