Backup Voodoo is reasonably high on my list of addons to port to 5.7. However, from my point of view, it is not yet the right time to do it.

5.7 is still changing with each release (think of the problems the 5.7.4 autoloader changes caused many developers). If I had ported Backup Voodoo for 5.7.3, I would now be involved in an expensive re-write for 5.7.4.

The 5.7 documentation, while improving, is still far from complete. As a developer I find reading the documentation a considerably less expensive way of working things out than doing it backwards by code archaeology.

I also need to know what the core backup function will do. At the moment, core backup is just a place holder in the 5.7 dashboard, so no-one has any idea of what it will provide. In the past major core upgrades have subsumed functionality similar to popular addons into the core and I wouldn't want to put a whole lot of effort into porting Backup Voodoo only to discover the next 5.7.x release already did some of that or completely cut my market from under me.

On the other hand, if a customer wanted to pay for 2+ weeks of my time to port it now, that could change my priorities. It was such a customer requirement that led to the original development of Backup Voodoo.
