What is the best Backup strategy for Concrete5 CMS? We are about to start several projects based on the Concrete5 CMS and backup isn't implemented as an option yet. Many regards.
Hi ARTRIUM,
The preferred way to backup your site is through your web host control panel tools. This can be done manually or automated using cron.

Hi.
Backup "through web host control panel" means a full server backup including all files? One of the companies we are hosting at offers full backups one week into the past. Another web host does not offer this service. Simply copying back all installed files form a mirrored backup (using FTP) didn't work out of the box. Do we need to backup the database first? Backup of whole Concrete5 projects is a serious subject for us. We are still not really clear about doing it correctly. A step-by-step guide would help much. Thanks for any further advice.

What you need at a minimum to restore a website is a full copy of the website files and a full copy of the database.
Your backup strategy really should cover having at least 2 copies of the backup in different locations.
Are you using shared hosting or VPS / dedicated?
If you have cpanel/whm you can use the included backup utility to run on a schedule and also transfer the backup offsite - into an Amazon S3 bucket for example - this is fairly trivial to set up if you have access to this.

We do backups of our projects via ftp from the webspace we rent of a webspace provider. Also one of the webspace providers offer a webspace mirror of all changes on a daily basis one week in the past. From that mirror we've pulled a full backup but it didn't work.
>Are you using shared hosting or VPS / dedicated?
We are using shared hosting via a webspace provider. No dedicated server for shure.

What's meant by "If you have cpanel/whm" and "included backup utility"? If these are options for a VPS (virtual privat server?) or dedicated server, we simply don't have them since we use shared hosting. For the "Amazon S3" example: We could move/direct data to another (unlimited) webspace we are using.

Hi,
to perform a full restore of your website you'd need to copy the files from your backup and you'd also need to restore the database.
As there is no backup facility in Concrete5, how you'd do this depends very much on your hosting.
You should ask your host exactly what backup facilities they provide then you can build your strategy from there.

so if there is no backup facility, when are they going to remove the backup option from the dashboard?
