Browse Server stalls before loading File Manager v 8.1.0

I have a client who is unable to load files to the server since we updated them to Version 8. We just updated the site to v 8.1.0 and the same issue. They have one site that is still 5.7.5.8 and it works fine for them. I asked a bazillion questions and this is their basic scenario: With multiple browsers (Safari, FireFox and Chrome) on several different computers, on different networks, they get a spinning ball (they are on Macs) every time they click the Browse Server button when creating links.
If they go in via the Dashboard --> File Manager they have no trouble uploading the files. But they have no way to create the links to those files.

After much back and forth we finally discovered that the problem seemed to have stemmed from files that were uploaded by a user that were later removed. So, at the moment this issue seems to be resolved.
Sounds like this should be filed as a bug, since it should be returning an error message at least.
