Cannot edit site at all

The subject says it all. No error messages, no reaction at all when I click on the edit button & no reaction to clicking on any of the other buttons, apart from the dashboard symbol. It was editable up until a few days ago then suddenly, not any more, for no good reason.
Sorry not to be able to offer more here, but it's just stopped working, If there was some sort of message I'd post it here, but there ain't!
