Can't add custom attributes with Composer Control

Hello can anyone help me with this issue.
I have been trying to add custom attributes to composer and it works fine. I see them in composer but when I try to edit my default template and add the attribute with composer control it is not there, what am I missing here.
1. I added a attribute set
2. I created the attribute in (pages and themes>attributes) (tried with both text & textarea)
3. I added the attributes in Edit form (pages and themes>page types>edit form)
4. When I try add my attributes to the page with composer control in my default template the only attributes I find are the builtin attributes. (pages and themes>page types>output)
I did this just the other day on a another site and it worked fine, both sites are installed on the same server btw.
