Can't assign a member to any other user group than 'Administrators'

Have 5.7.3.1 installed several times, local as well as on external server.
All of those installations are showing the same:
In member's view/edit window, the button 'Add Group' only highlights the administrators group below 'All Groups'. The rest of the tree view is hidden.

Any hints?

Thank you very much!

Have you created a User Group? As I see it, the only of the default User Groups you can assign users to is the Administrator Group.

Jakob, thanks for your interest.

Attached find 2 screenshots that explain, that I have 'Guest', 'Registered Users' and Administrators as User Groups

As soon as I switch to 'Members', clicking the button 'Add Group' and trying to assign f.e. 'Registered Users' to a member, the only thing that shows up is what you can see in the pic.

Can you help?

I think that's the normal behavior. You can't assign users to the guest group since everybody is a guest. Not sure why it's not possible to add users to the registered users group, though. But that's just how it is. You will have to create you own groups, and set the permissions you want those groups to have.

Thank you Jacob.
Your hint to ignore the default values and add my own groups was the key.
Thank you very much!
