Can't delete Alias of External Link without it deleting the aliased External Link

I initially had all 16 of their locations under this parent page as External Links and had them all displayed as one Page List. I then, wanting to divide them up by region, created regional pages. Under each regional page, I put Aliases of the corresponding External Links and then created Page Lists to show results underneath the hidden pages. It worked like a charm with the exception that I now had the Regional Pages AND the uncategorized External Links in the sidebar navigation. So, I hid the regional pages for now.
I want to change things to now show the regional pages in the navigation with the External Links under them, and NOT show the list of uncategorized External Links like what is shown now. My thoughts were to delete the Aliases and permanently move the External Links under their regional page. However, I found that deleting the alias deleted the parent External Link as well.
