We've got some PDF files in the file manager. We link to them from a page for downloads, but analytics isn't tracking them correctly because there's not a ".pdf' in the link filename.

I see in the file manager there are attributes such as page link, external url, link type, etc. Are these just place holder fields or do they do something? Can I assign an externally accessible url to a file and use that for the analytics tracking? I searched both the 5.7 docs and the legacy docs but found nothing talking about this so I'm not sure where to go next.
