File Manager returning 0 files

Howdy,
I'm scrambling a little here with an approaching deadline, but will do my best to outline what is going on:
I've uploaded about 100 files (pdfs,images, etc) to the default location using the file manager and had been having a pretty satisfying experience using it. I just began the tedious process of 'partitioning' my site to support a second language. I followed the steps as outlined for the 5.7 multilingual video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZIqxGAS1FE).
So far so good. There was a little cleanup to do with homepage migration to respective languages, but all in all everything worked as expected.
THE ONLY PROBLEM is the file manager can no longer find ANY files. The front end is showing them fine, but I can't edit,view or control them in anyway as an admin. I've also attempted to upload new files. This runs successfully, and I can see the location where the file is added on the server, but the File Manager still returns nothin'!
