[Forum Feature Request] - Mark Posts by C5 Version

Permalink 1 user found helpful
Due to the massive differences between C5 5.6 and 5.7, there are a lot of forum posts that are completely irrelevant to 5.7 users.

If I had to put it in numbers, I would say that 9 out of 10 forum posts I read contain information and topics that is invalid for Concrete 5.7.

This is causing quite a big headache for all the developers and designers at my company who are using the forums to try and answer simple questions.

While I get that there is a forum called "5.7 Discussion" it doesn't really help when 5.7 topics appear in other threads.

My suggestion would be to add a button to all forum posts to mark a thread as relating to a specific version or even pre5.6 and also a banner to each post saying what version it relates to.

This button would be something that would be available to all users, allowing the community to help clean up the forums.

I would also recommend doing a batch script for all old posts. Instantly marking them as version 5.6 or less. You could also do a batch script for all posts with 5.6 tags (not many posts have this though).

By Adding in a banner to each post, you would also help people who are searching for topics in Google. Say for example you included '5.7' in your search term, Google would obviously rank those topics marked as 5.7 higher than those marked as 5.6. You could even go the extra mile and add thehttp://schema.org/version markup to the version area so Google could easily pick it up (if it uses this schema tag, I have no idea).

I hope others agree with me on this and if you don't please feel free to post an alternative solution.

I could not agree more as I find this forum format very confusing. It is difficult when looking for info and start reading and not knowing if you are dealing with 5.6 or 5.7.
