is this something for github? as there is a gathering job and some tables and classes but no block or a documentation....
To be fully honest, I think we just weren't able to figure out how to make it a compelling part of a site experience. We got it about 75% of the way, and it was a cool way to group lots of different types of content (including pages, external articles from other sites, etc...) but in practice we couldn't really see what it was _for_.
I don't think all the lessons learned about it have gone away, I think they'll be incorporated in other ways, but the way people are using concrete5 these days leads us to worrying more about features that are really asked for by web teams and developers building sites for organizations and businesses. These people have a specific way that they want something to look and function, and the best part about the Gathering was that it was somewhat random and presented your content in different ways. Yes, it would try to present certain types of content in certain ways, and if you modified a gathering tile it would remember your changes, but at the end of the day we simply couldn't figure out a real use case for how what we had started building would work on a live site.
The code is still there. It's certainly possible that we'll revive it. We're proud of it and I still think there's merit it in it.

I really thought this idea had legs. The ability to pull stuff in from various sources easily and present it well should be a great feature. This sort of thing goes down really well with many of my clients:

but is nigh on impossible for non-coders to produce.

I am working on an addon (for 5.7) that does pretty much the same thing. Take a look at my Social Feed and Social Timeline addons. I am working on a package for 5.7 that will include both of those.

The new version will include Facebook and Google. There will also be a way to easily manage the API keys centrally from the dashboard, as several of the networks will require this (Facebook, Google, Instagram, Twitter, and Dribbble).
