How do you set default page attributes for page type

Hi,
I am sure this used to be possible in 5.6, but I can't work out how to set an attribute for a page type by default? On the defaults page there is no "settings" menu to set the attributes.
As an example, I want to exclude all pages of type News from the navigation.

This isn't something we've added back into page types. It's on our list and should be a part of 5.7.3.
As a stop-gap, you can add this attribute to composer for the news page type and check the checkbox by default. It will just appear on the compose form but that'll at least be easier than having to re-check it through page attributes after making the page.
Thanks Andrew. In the end I default post all the news articles under a new articles page and excluded that from the navigation, seemed to do the trick.
Oh nice, yeah, that would do the trick as well.
