Layout Editor UI Improvements

Hey all,
It would be great to get some traction on improving the layout editor in Concrete 5.8.
There's been some great discussion on the need to clean up the UI for creating and working with layouts but it seems to have stalled.
IMHO this is a critical area to get right if C5 is going to continue to compete with the plethora of Wordpress visual editors and the Squarespace/Wix/Weeblys of the world.

I really like the thinking with this, the layout tools could certainly be improved.
There are lots of times where I've though that the layout controls rely on someone using trial and error and learning how it works, rather than it being more initially obvious.
