Save "Area Design" for use with other areas

Ok, I've tried to find discussions related to this but so far I have not managed to find any answers to this.

In regards to the "Edit Area Design" function...

Can the area designs be saved for later use like you could do in older pre 5.7.* versions?

If so, I don't believe there is a similar feature in 5.7.

I would be curious to know if a lot of people used it.

Yes... In 5.6 and older you could save presets but I'm not seeing that option in 5.7

I didn't use it much., but registering styles in the page_theme.php file for 5.7 (either for blocks or areas) is kind of the same idea, no?

This is a feature of 5.6 that we haven't had time to integrate back into 5.7. It's still on the roadmap for some point soon, however:
