Upgrading from 5.7.5.13 on Windows Platform

I have a site running under windows using 5.7.5.13 the upgrade shows version 8.2.1 as the version to download although the latest version appears to be 8.5.1.
When I downloaded 8.5.1 I get the message 'ZipArchive::extractTo(): Full extraction path exceed MAXPATHLEN (260)' which I believe is due to a limit set by windows. Looking into this I found documentation saying I should change the project path however I cannot see how to do this.
