e-commerce : Creating a "Category" Block
Permalink
Hello, I just think it would be great if there was a "category" block inside the e-commerce add-on.
The way I imagine it, would be to
1- add to e-commerce the ability to link a photo with any created product sets.
2- Then, the category block could display the product sets along with a thumbnail of the photo and/or a small description.
3- You'd also find a link to a page with a product list block (Hence the category)
Is this doable? Am I dreaming? :)
Just wanted to put that out there :)
Thanks and take care

What can't you already do with the product list block?
I've tried, but I wasn't able to do it with the product list block.
What I need, is to have a visual store front that will show off the categories of product... Then give a link to the page containing the product list block
I understand that the product list block will display all and every products within a given set. if selected...
I actually need only one photo to be displayed.
I'm considering doing it by hand with a HTML editor...
I think either I don't know how to use the product list block or either this can't be done and the solution would be to create what I suggest...

could be as simple as adding a layout to your "storefront" page, using image blocks in each area for the category images and slap a link under each image linking to the "category" page...
I see what you mean now, wasn't clear to me initially. As @enlil suggests, it shouldn't be that hard to put it together, especially if its only needed on the storefront page, so does not have to be particularly ergonomic.
all the fun starts when you take the next step and begin creating page types and attributes!! Let the filtering begin :D
Yes this is a great workaround. And not too much work to do... But I still believe that it would make a nice addition to ecommerce to have a category block. Pretty much based on the product list block but that would focus on sets instead of products...
But hey! A solution was found, and that's what matters :)
Many thanks for sharing!
