font safe? ermm..

Hey,

I found this open source software that takes care of fonts so you would be able to use whatever font you want, can concrete5 team come up with something that would enable us to use whatever font we want?http://www.fontsquirrel.com/fontface...

Thanks,

pvs

I don't see how this is related to Concrete5. You can build a theme and use font-face or Cufon to use any font you want. But be careful when using fonts like Arial or Fruttiger, you're usually not allowed to use most of the standard fonts.

You can easily extend TinyMCE to use a custom css class where you can specify a font..

What exactly are you looking for?

well.. I was thinking in the customization of the theme for the user to be able to upload their own font and use select it from the customization of the theme. Right now, the theme can select a particular color, so if we could be able to upload a font and select that font. It's a cool feature to have. :)

ah yes, that would make sense...

It's not really important to me, but I'm not into graphics a lot (:

From what I've seen in the svn, the core team is busy with more basic (and more important) stuff, I doubt they care a lot about such a feature right now.

Too bad Christmas is over ;-) Santa might have implemented this for you - if you were a good boy this year..

i've been thinking that a block that does flash rendering of nicer fonts would be cool, and not that hard. i think i saw someone else playing around with something like that a few months ago on here, but i'm not sure how far that went and if they made it into a block.

there are several blocks like that, there's also a cufon block..

But all of them have one limitation, they are basically restricted to "title fonts". You can insert a custom font for your title, and that's basically it.

What about:
- Form labels?
- Autonav text?
- Slideshow captions
etc. etc.

This is where Vnikos' approach with customizable css would be a lot more powerful...

But also more difficult..

we should try to get some of those blocks in the marketplace. are any of the authors of those blocks reading this?

well, I know one person who built a cufon block and he's not going to release it because as soon as you release something to the marketplace people expect to get free support...

Something I completely understand. I don't mind sharing something for free, as most of you know, but I also built a lot of blocks which most of you haven't seen yet.. eCommerce, content editor, gallery

I would release a lot of stuff if I wouldn't have to answer all the questions about it...
Not sure about the other authors, I think there was a French guy would also played with sifr, cufon.

guys,
well I am eager to make this block but I think this would be better if we would add it to the core of concrete5, if not the core, a way to customize the theme to be more specific. We could add it to the content block, as a feature.
Remo: Have you tried thehttp://www.fontsquirrel.com/fontface... ? It doesnt require any javascript nor flash. I think it would be a good addition. Also if we could link it to websites likehttp://new.myfonts.com/ and download it directly from there plus pay the rights to use the font. I have to admit, I have yet used this way but if you would download the demo of the fonts, you will see how easy it is to implement it.
Let me know if you guys need any help implementing it, I am not as good as you are but I will try my best.

PS. Happy new year :P

I know about fontsquirrel for a while but I still prefer cufon as it works with mozilla 1.5+, safari 3+, chrome 1+ etc.

I'm not going to work on such a block as I really don't care much about fonts.

Adding it to the content block is probably not enough, to me, autonav is often as important as the content because it's a place where a lot of people would like to use a custom font..

Why don't you try to implement this on your own? You can always ask question if you run into a problem - I'd be happy to have a few more advanced questions in the forum.

About the way you can implement this:
1 customize theme: Might be nice but won't work with most of themes unless you modify them
2 block: only useful for a certain content, title
3 a dashboard extension: A bit tricky to use as you would have to use some selectors to specify the font. Like "#autonav ul li a - myfont.."

I'd probably go for #3 as it is the most powerful one, but do whatever you think is the best way for you..

Happy new year too (:
