non-flash based audio block?

Permalink 1 user found helpful
hi, i would love to see a block that could play 1, or more audio tracks that's not flash based, and could be compatible with mobile devices such as the iphone.

is anyone currently working on anything like this? i would be happy to lend a hand in the GUI .. thanks!

Try jPlayer, a jquery css styled audio player. Still using a small flash file to play. But easy to integrate and skin.

From my understanding, it falls-back on flash if HTML5 support is not available.

Platforms and Browsers

* Windows: Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari, IE6, IE7, IE8, IE9
* OSX: Safari, Firefox, Chrome, Opera
* iOS: Mobile Safari: iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch
* Android: Android 2.3 Browser
* Blackberry: We require a device for testing

Media Support

* HTML5: mp3, mp4 (AAC/H.264), ogg (Vorbis/Theora), webm (Vorbis/VP8), wav
* Flash: mp3, mp4 (AAC/H.264)

For xbrowser support, a format must be supplied that works in both HTML5 and Flash.
Optional additional formats may be supplied to increase xbrowser HTML5 support.

There is a free Wordpress plugin available, but I believe that only supports mp3 files.

I would love to get a c5 block interface working using File Sets :)

how do you want to play files? Embedding sounds in html was never rock solid....

Flash is still a lot more powerful! You could probably create a java applet but just because apple doesn't support flash, uhm..

g: i actually just checked out jplayer right before you wrote.. unfortunately my iphone drowned last week so i gotta find a replacement to see if it would work.. :(

remo: ideally i would love a way to securely play/stream audio files (protecting unreleased music from being downloaded) but it's super important that these files be accessible on mobile devices such as iphones.. if there's a version of flash that can do this now i would be interested to see it .. ya, i know it all seems to be about apple these days, but it's the reality i live in as well as my community..

no, there's not flash version which works, apple just doesn't support flash!

Not sure if iPhone & Co support "real mp3 streaming". What happens if you just add a link to your audio file? I guess iPhone can handle a link to an audio file? (I don't have one)

Has anyone successfully managed this yet? Really need a non based audio player for new site. Any advice welcome - newbie to C5, loving it so far but this is a stumbling block.

Thanks
