Open Forum on Community Blocks

I wish there was an actual forum dedicated to this, but instead I thought I would create an open thread (maybe branch off from here, as well, as this grows) to accommodate this conversation.

I've been thinking, for some time, that there are a number of us, in the C5 community-at-large, that would be interested in participating in creating opensource (and, generally, free for anyone to use) Blocks for Concrete5. These would be "group projects" (community-driven Add-Ons) which anyone can join in and collaborate on. We would use these forums, or perhaps a Sourceforge project to discuss and house code.

If there is enough interest, I'd be glad to help out to foster such a group. Please respond if there are any interested parties, and with some ideas of what you may be trying to, or wanting to, create!

(Of course, also, we'd need developers, designers and testers alike to help contribute!)

Fire away!

*bump* (mostly) ...but, how come there is no interest in something like this? I would have thought there'd be a lot!

I would be all for this. I am not a strong coder, but I am very active in development communities in driving and promoting projects.

What may be a good idea is to create a website dedicated to this. Have a community area for submitting, developing, and communicating on community blocks.

You would want it to be truly open where people could either develop on their own or build teams to work on more complicated ideas.

I am willing to set some things up if you think we can get enough interest.

Thoughts?

I would suggest you guys check out the kabillion resources that already exist for developers to collaborate on code.

I hear google code is pretty good for that... github... etc

If you've got a specific need your building for and a team of people who want to contribute, the tools generally fall right into place.

I have trouble finding things in this forum,

But I to would like to help I have some blocks I have developed but would need tidying before being released to the community. (Nothing fancy just simple image-columns and Main Titles) I am working on a photo gallery system very similar to the faq tutorial, but using a couple of other gallery blocks so I don't know if I could include this?

there is one community project that I know of its to redesign the default form block
http://www.concrete5.org/community/forums/block_requests/new-commun...

Using the suggested sites is a great idea but I would like to see a section of the forum dedicated to community projects.

Any time I look through the forum I end up using search instead of browsing the categories.
