a marketplace of blocks will be launched later this month here..

you don't need a login block, there's a login page in your site already.

One could be made though, right? Would it work the same as the login page if coded correctly?

Only reason I ask is because I hope to make a global login for my site and forums and a login block would be a nice touch.

login block we'll do as part of the next big launch.

mass email:
i'd recommend exporting your user list and using a 3rd party bulk email solution likehttp://mailchimp.com

I to am new and looking to have members log in to access parts of the site. When I downloaded [login] from the add-ons page from this site, it gave me a zip file.

I am not using a local host, but have a hosting company, so I cant see how a zip file will help me.

Am I correct in that the add-on [login] from here is not something I can use?

On my [dashboard] if i check <show system pages> in the lower right corner, i see the pages for log in and register.

How do I initialize them for the visitors to become members and the members to log in?

register simply point them to register.php which resides under siteroot/register.php. you can use the url helper for this if you want, might as well, copy how the login is done in the default template and call it a day.

Please also try to read a bit of documentation using the search feature here or what i use:

google "my concrete5 issue site:concrete5.org"

brings up whatever you want. Also loading your php project in something that lets you search the "project" will save you hours, in my case days :)
