A Few questions / Decisions to be made

Hi there, i'm new here and after looking at 40 or so different style virtual communities/cms systems and so on this has to be one of the best i've found and very well made! I was wondering if it was possible for me to achieve a community website with a forum system like this but simplify some of the options down. What i mean by this is how you make new topics and discussions and replies, would it be possible for me to do it the classic way and have the reply at the footer of the thread and the new discussion on the page instead of the popup box? i hope my question isn't too vague!

Check out the discussions addon.

Might be the one for you!

hey thanks, does this system work on the discussion forum or is this a different setup on here? is it possible for all the threads you monitor to have a favourites page that shows all your favourite threads/posts?

Well this is a custom forum to suit the needs of c5.

However the forums app is nice.

I have tried it out and it works quite well.

I will have to check in to the features.

I wish it was the same as this but its pretty darn close. But the good thing is since it is supported by the core team you will have updates for life (which is killer!).

I would watch the screen cast, it helps.

Cheers,

Thomas

what features does the concrete5 forum have that the additional $55 addon doesn't?

I haven't used the forums package in production yet but hopefully with the two sites I am working on now, it will be integrated.

Once you get the Forums Package installed you can modify it however you like. The support is great, making it work with your custom css file(s) should be rather painless. Look at all the video's you can. (I sometimes have serious brain farts and look at them and bang my head on the desk. The solutions are so easy.)

With infinite support from core team products, you shouldn't have any problems if the directions are followed and/or you really like experimenting with the possibilities!!!

The core is free. Don't hesitate to purchase (if you have too) a package. You have pretty quick response times from the developers of those packages and it helps to spread the joys and ease of use of the CMS and the members of the community.

hey, much thanks for your reply! very much appreciated! i was looking to create a very simplistic but feature rich website that was more visually beautiful from using less! i'm still unsure what the difference between the forum system used here is to the addon packages?

They made this one first. Finally they made the one on the marketplace. Not sure what the differences are on the backend. Andrew or Franz needs to answer that one.
