Animated GIF as Avatar?

The Flash-based avatar upload utility apparently doesn't preserve GIF animations. Gosh, aren't we allowed to have _any_ fun here?

;-)

Is there a non-Flash way to upload an avatar? I temporarily disabled Flash, and it appears not, but maybe I'm missing something?
