Announcing : THEME-THROW-DOWN! ... be a winner.
Think you're a fast production programmer?
Prove it.
This Friday at 1pm PST everyone is invited to join us in the first ever crowd sourced theme conversion. We're going to spend 2 solid hours converting as many website themes into concrete5 sites as we possibly can. He/or she who converts the most themes gets universal respect, will be "Member of the Month" in April, and moreover will get $100 in cold hard cash.
Here is a clear spec for structuring your theme, and making sure it behaves appropriately:
http://www.concrete5.org/help/building_with_concrete5/developers/th...
Brew your coffee before hand & crack those knuckles, because come 1pm PST on Friday the 27th of March it IS ON! Work as hard and as fast as you can for 2 hours and at the end - winner takes all.
(To be fair - Andrew will not be competing, but rather approving your submitted themes. Other c5 staff and contractors are encouraged to compete.)
Plan on attending? RSVP here. We'll have a IRC room going for this one, and there will be beer-n-bs as things wind down.

if it works well, we'll figure out how to have one for the other side of the globe.

don't want anyone to see that post...
n/t
but my xhtml/css-fu is weak. Don't not enter because my face is on the discussion page, otherwise you might just have to look at it for another month.
I hope some others show up :) I am not in it to win it, perhaps I might, but hey 2hrs for a good cause in the middle of the day, why not.
Oh Lucas, be there =)

I will try to be there...
1) Get a IRC client and join us on efNet in #concrete5 - I apologize for the old skool technology here, but if you want to participate we need to be able to talk.
2) gotohttp://www.oswd.org - this is where we're pulling templates from for this adventure.
3) pick a template you like, ask in the chat room if it's valid. Andy or I must tell you its valid. We want to be careful about a few thnigs, so please ask before you start coding.
4) convert it to match the spec andy is posting a link to here.
5) tell us you're done with one in the chat room. We'll review it while you work on the next...
(lather, rinse, repeat...)

Updated - I added the link to our marketplace theme submission guidelines in the original post above.
What is a good IRC client for the mac?
i like snak.
It's a great idea :) I'm going to try do some themes at some point too, and will post up some.
Cheers

its been fun and interesting..
suckerfish will actually be a custom template in the marketplace before long.. should work with many themes...

Oh yeah - if somebody could provide a suckerfish dropdown theme it would be sooo great :) :D:D
illuminating.
turns out while you /CAN/ make a theme in concrete5 in under 8 minutes, making one we want to actually feature in our marketplace is a good deal harder. We've got some pretty clear guidelines around what makes an acceptable theme for redistribution here now, and that pushed people's conversion time up to.. well.. about 2 hours. ;)
so in interests of fairness - we're gonna split the $100 between folks who competed who didn't work for me. (Scott and b-lew)... (assuming b-lew finishes those last tweaks andy just sent him..)

I'll finish the theme and I will do 1 or 2 more hopefully this weekend so its worth your time and money franz. Sorry I had to step out a couple of times to get somethings done at work. But like I said I will get those out the door and send them to you for approval.
If you want to pic a couple of other themes you would like to see let me know and I'll get to them.

Some folks have been asking to do more conversions in their free time, which we really could be more appreciative of.
Im not sure if some of these got started on friday or not, I think not.. but here's a list of themes i think would be flexible and attactive in our marketplace:
http://www.oswd.org/design/preview/id/3027...
http://www.oswd.org/design/preview/id/2868...
http://www.oswd.org/design/preview/id/2845...
http://www.oswd.org/design/preview/id/2720...
http://www.oswd.org/design/preview/id/2713...
http://www.oswd.org/design/preview/id/2741...
http://www.oswd.org/design/preview/id/2581...
I'll have Andrew update this thread on which themes actually have been finally accepted from friday and which may still be in development by others.
Also, please do follow Tony's advice above about wrapping the whole page in a div tag to help keep the theme's styles from colliding with our own..
thanks again guys!

It is harder than I would have thought to work from someone else's already coded css layout. The lazydays one is a neat one in presentation but required tweaks to figure out when the edit bar is up since the bar pushed the images down and whatnot. And for whatever reason tinyMCE isn't picking up the styles either since they are all div targeted.
What a mess.
What a mess.
Thanks so much to everybody who participated in this theme throw down, it helps the community so much, and it's great to have generous people like that in not only the internet but the world itself.
When will these themes be available to see in the marketplace?

I love simple yet effective templates likehttp://www.i-templater.com has.
Check out this for example. It's running Joomla :( Which sucks, but it's so nice and tidy, nice drop down menu, search box, it's perfect for loads of websites. If somebody could port a website theme like this or develop one with a suckerfish drop down I am willing to pay hard cash for this.
Get in touch :)

anyway, i think it's a great idea so we'll have a lot more template options to choose from.
