Are the days of C5 ending
Permalink
For a few years I have used C5 and loved it but the last 12 months I have found it keeps having issues.
I posted an issue today here on chit chat as there is not actually a support thread which I feel is strange, to try and fix the issue I am having I even installed a new version of C5 and purchased $95 worth of theme and a mod but still no fix.

is the issue raised but I feel if there is no support for the project in Concrete5 may bee it is time to start looking at alternatives and that seems a real shame to me !
rant over.

I looked on the internet and bug tracker for a solution but no luck even did a fresh install using softaclous and purchased a new theme and add on to rebuild from scratch but it looks like $95 wasted
is it possible you're just expecting it to do something it doesn't?
I just setup an instant trial with arvixe from our budget hosting page.
Here's a video of it working as intended for me:

Likely one of three things:
1) The UI for sets is weird, you got the wrong check box or something similar.
2) The install you have via softaculous is ganked, that's totally feasible. Similarly perhaps there's something about your install that doesn't like the word Test.. dunno..
3) The add-ons/theme you have installed are messing something up. This is open source so there's thousands of permutations for everything making support a very organic thing.
Best advice:
1) Try with a clean install, add stuff slowly.
Totally clean on your host after softaculous. Does it behave now?
Add your theme and try again.
Perhaps that theme has something thats conflicting with the dashboard form elements, doesn't seem likely but certainly anything's possible.
Add some of those add-ons, try again...
etc..
2) Try posting a bug to the bug tracker when/if you find it, with some very thorough details. The video thing (jing) really helps. Just searching the internet for your problem and not finding an immediate answer is pretty common.
3) Perhaps a tad less fatalism. There's a lot of people working very hard on concrete5, the fact that no one has answered your question in less than 24 hours doesn't mean the "the days of c5 are ending". It means people sleep and no one has found the time to help you for free yet. ;) There's a lot of ways to get support for concrete5. Some of them even free. The free ones are typically not immediate.
Hope that helps, I totally wouldn't be shocked if it was just a usage issue. I can't tell you how many times I've done a bulk upload, typed a new set name into what is actually the search sets field, and hit return thinking i had saved it to that set. We're revisiting that UI choice in 5.7 because it's a very common mistake.

Thanks for the reply I will do another fresh install and test before I add anything and update you.
markrodtech,
For additional, more instant gratification support, you might try chatting with people on IRC, it is free and there are often some very knowledgeable community members who hang out there and are willing to help.
1. visithttp://kiwiirc.com/client
2. Enter whatever nickname you want, no password required
3. Enter the channel #concrete5
4. Explain your problem and wait for response

It sounds like you may be looking for the bug tracker:
http://www.concrete5.org/developers/bugs/5-6-3-1/...
File sets work fine for me. If your install is working less well than it used to, perhaps something is changing with your install?
The UI in 5.6 on the bulk upload is pretty counter intuitive, easy to make the mistake that you're putting them in a set instead of searching sets...
Most of our own energy is going into 5.7, which is rather active on github.
