Base Framework

Why wasn't a open source php framework (CakePHP, Symfony or Code Igniter) used as the base framework for Concrete5?

Wouldn't using an open source php framework be better to use because C5 would get the benefit of any updates and would be one less thing to manage?

Because concrete CMS has been around since early 2003 as a commercial product. at that point we either didn't know or didn't care about those frameworks.

while concrete5 was only released open source last summer, it's had a long deliberate history before that.
