blog list not truncating posts

Just did a fresh install of an apache server using snow leopard and when I put the site back up the blog lists are now displaying the entire post ( except the comments). Anyone know what's going on. I'm running 5.4. Also, the description for the pictures is not showing up in the Flash Gallery block.
