Can this site be achieved (easily) in C5?

Hi,

I recently created a website using Joomla 1.5 for a client that needed that turned out to be an absolute nightmare because of how complex the system has become. The site has the following features:

- Multiple navigations: a top navigation and a second navigation that is related to the top navigation i.e. the links are to subpages of a section.
- Ability to create user-restricted pages (i.e. only user A can see pages 2 and 3, only user B can see page 1 etc.)
- Different content on the left for each page (sounds trivial, but that's surprisingly difficult in Joomla because of the way it works).
- Linking to a pdf (pathetic, but true, there's no easy way to link to files in Joomla without installing third-party plugins).

I'm new to C5, but I like the idea that clients can create content/edit etc. inline as opposed to logging in to an admin end.

I've attached a pdf of the designs - would I have been able to create a site like this easily in C5?

Thanks

osu, all this is totally doable with concrete5 and shouldnt be that difficult! You'll need to setup advanced permissions for the user-restricted pages to really work the way you need it.

By the way, welcome to concrete5 - you're going to love it!

That's good news!

I might try and build this separately as a personal project as the site has been created now in Joomla now.

I was worried it might be hard to get up to speed with C5, but reading the reviews and having seen the template video tutorial, it doesn't look difficult to set up a simple site quickly.

Are there any books on how to learn C5?

Thanks for the welcome, glad to be here :)

I was a long time Joomla developer and you can have inline editing of content without having to log into the admin screen.

But I do echo your complexity remarks about Joomla. I didnt realize the chore Joomla development became until I found Concrete5.

Hi argvader,

True, you can edit inline, but you can't do more complex things like add modules etc. I also think the way modules work is pretty unusual/not very logical.

Considering you've developed using Joomla for so long, what do you find C5 offers you that Joomla doesn't?

I assume setting up a navigation system is far simpler right? My clients freak out so much with how complex Joomla is in the admin end.

What are your thought?
