Captcha only works when logged in

Hello, I'm having trouble with the default C5 captcha code only working when I'm logged in as an admin user. If I'm just on the site regularly it doesn't recognize if the user entered the correct code - it just says it's incorrect.
Is it possible this is due to the website having a proxy? I edit in public.mywebsite.com, but everyone views it inhttp://www.mywebsite.com/public.
Is there something else I might be missing?
