Certification - more information required
Permalink 1 user found helpful
Hi, it is great to see that certification has gone live and I plan to take some tests shortly.
Is it possible to find out examples of what areas of C5 knowledge are required for each certification test?
I see tests that I feel confident to take today, but shouldn't there be a general bit of information on each test so that we know the types of questions we should be prepared for and the knowledge/skills that are required to successfully pass these tests?
If I knew what depth of knowledge was required, it would help me to set myself personal development goals to improve my skills and hopefully gain more passes.
Apologies if it is listed somewhere on the site but I have been unable to find it.
Regards

Hi lwduk,
Thanks for the feedback. We've just launched, so we're very interested in what people think of the tests. I could definitely see adding some more complete summaries of what each test covers. At the same time, though, we probably don't want to make things too easy! It's a bit of a balancing act.
In addition to the test descriptions Julia mentioned, I wanted to point out that the tests are, naturally, "open book"-- you're welcome to search our documentation, how-to articles and forums, use Google, etc as you complete the test.
The best resources might be our Developer's Index:
http://www.concrete5.org/documentation/developers/...
And our Editor's Guide:
http://www.concrete5.org/documentation/using-concrete5/...
Although of course some questions might require a little on-the-spot thinking, of course.
Good luck!

I took the Theme Development exam - I thought it was quite thorough. As in - you'd have to know C5 well to get the right answers.
I took an Editor's cert too with my leftover credits - Making and Moving Content. It was also thorough, without getting too pedantic. To be honest, I think the Moving Content exam was harder than the Theme Development exam.
Good luck.

Also: the current threshold for pass / fail is 80% correct (or 20 out of 25 questions). That might change sometime in the future as we see how folks are doing, but that's how it's set for now. In general we've seen many more passed tests than failed tests so far.
If you click on a test link, you'll see there's a summary at the bottom of each individual test page that lists the knowledge you'll need to pass the test. Hope that helps!
