Concrete5.mn Represents at the Overnight Website Challenge

Permalink 2 users found helpful
A Minnesota interactive agency, The Nerdery, is hosting it's annual Overnight Website Challenge, an event where volunteers form teams of ten web pros that show up not knowing what nonprofit they'll serve, pro bono, for the next 24 hours.

This year we're attempting to get Concrete5 represented and have formed a team of local Minnesota (and one from Iowa!) Concrete5 developers and other strategic personnel.

Our team roster includes the following people from the Concrete5 community:

LucasAnderson

HereNT

PerryGovier

Curtis
http://www.concrete5.org/profile/-/view/1644/...

Darkorical
http://www.concrete5.org/profile/-/view/9834/...

Odds are good that we'll be accepted, but we're still keeping our fingers crossed. Just another way for Concrete5 to give back to the community and be represented.

View our team page here:

More about the event can be found here:

Most importantly, please support and cheer us on via Twitter by using hash-tag: #owc28

Thanks!

- Lucas

Thanks Scott! I'll let you know, but I can imagine the calendar would be an awesome addition.

Note to Add-on Developers: For all donated add-ons, developers will get a plug on our local group website,http://www.concrete5.mn as well as from our Twitter account.

It's not much, but it's something we can give back to you.

I tried granting you a "Deluxe Image Gallery" license but it said you were an invalid user ("Concrete5mn"). Let me know if you think this would be useful to you, and if so I'll figure out a way to get it to you.

Good luck in the challenge!

Thanks Jordan,

Not sure why you were unable to grant us a license. The user account is here:http://www.concrete5.org/profile/-/view/43568/...

Okay, it just worked. I guess you can't just type in the user name -- you have to type in the user name, wait 3 seconds (without any indicator) for the user to appear in the autocomplete list, then click on it.

Hope you guys find it useful in totally crushing the competition and making them run home and cry.
Or just building a great website :)

Wow, what an experience it was. Things did not go as smoothly as we had hoped for from the start, hosting issues, database corruption, no dns access, and some strange bugs put us behind early on. We rallied in the final 10 hours and I am very proud of what we delivered in that last stretch when our brainpower was fading and things were getting nutty. Props to Perry for carrying the team towards the end, I know my brain was pretty worthless nearing the 22 hour mark. The website, that we put live 7am Sunday is The Children's Program of Northern Ireland:

www.www.childrensprogramofni.org...

Thanks to all developers who donated licenses for their add-ons, we had an amazing selection of great stuff to choose from.

Event highlights: Senator Al Franken stopping by to tell some computer jokes, Tron guy, a pile of computers to bash with baseball bats, insane amounts of free delicious food at all hours.

The team that won the 'competition' end of things built this site:

http://www.bloomingtonyouth.org/...

...using their own proprietary in-context cms:

Fantastic job guys. The site you built looks great and I'm sure while all the non-profits got a great deal, The Children's Program of Northern Ireland will have a nice flexible platform they can stick with for years to come.

Thank you very very much.
