My site installs on Inmotionhosting generate various numbers of large (15 − 90 mb) files named like above. The number changes but its prefix is always CORE. I have a few sites on Dreamhost and they never have these files. Inmotionhosting says its some sort of 'backup' from a script that is running on my site.
Does anyone know what these are caused by? I can delete them via ftp without any problems to the sites involved.

Heres a follow up:
The server with the CORE files has 512MB of ram for php whereas the server that doesn’t run out of memory has 90MB. Im trying the smartwebprojects solution.

Im not sure, server-wise, whether this will affect anyone else. I am on Inmotionhosting and the php info file tells me Im set up with the right parameters for concrete5. However, unless I put a php.ini file in each installation directory the CORE.xxxx files will get generated.
The php settings should inherit from the root. And while it appears that it was inheriting, my server environment want the repeat of the ini file in each installation root.
Maybe this will help someone else.

There's lots of chatter out there about this. Seems to have something to do with PHP memory limit and possibly caching.
