Custom Navigation

I have a rather peculiar problem. The theme I am using (Camera Arts Pro) has drop down navigation but I want to be able to include another navigation with flyout options on several level two pages. All of these options will be links outside of the site. I don't want any of these to show up in the main navigation bar. Problem is I can't exclude external links from showing on the navigation and cannot limit the main navigation bar to the first two levels. Can't see my way out of this one.
Anybody got any ideas?

create the navigation and have the pages redirect to the links. Creates a nice option to keep track of clicks to the links on those pages as well ;)

I wonder if you could put all your external links under a page with "Exclude from nav" checked.
Then use a page list set to show the links under your excluded page to show the external links?
