Displaying bios without making them members of the site

I need to be able to display lists of pages that are alphabetized by last name without creating the pages names Last, First.
As the number of pages grows, I then need to be able to have a dynamic way of picking a letter from the alphabet and displaying only the pages with last names starting with the selected letter.
Not interested in making them members of the site. Is there a way to do this? An add-on I didn't see?
