download stats

Our site italklibary.com offers free download of italk™ stoires which download as a .italk file directly from our host server. The download stats from concrete5 file manager over-represent the number of downloads that are actually being done by human beings. I know this because I recently noticed an .italk file that was removed from public view and relocated in the directory but was still receiving downloads according to the stats when I check that file in the file manager. Does any one have any ideas what might be producing these stats?
Thanks
Michael

The download and page loads are pretty simple. They basically just add an entry when the page is viewed or a file is downloaded.

Any number of things can be causing the download stats to continue to increment. Things like search engine spiders crawling your site.

I would recommend changing the permissions on the file if you no longer want it available, or deleting it completely from the file manager.

Thanks Mark,
I just replied to the concrete5 user and now I see your identity. Here's my reply and questions - perhaps you have a solution...

Dear concrete5 Team,

The problem is not just continued download of unlinked files, (and yes, I have removed old files and pages), it is that we are not getting an accurate picture of how many people are downloading each italk story.

How can I find out what is causing the non-human downloads? Will search engine spiders crawling the site actually download a file?

And more importantly, is there a way I can separate the human downloads from the non-human downloads?

Thanks
Michael
