eCommerce options/suggestions/thoughts for C5
Permalink
I'll start off by saying I tried installing/configuring Zen Cart a while back and it was one of the most frustrating things I've ever done that didn't wind up requiring I sweep up broken crockery afterward.
Then, after working with C5 for a little while, I tried the C5 eCommerce package, which was a comparative breeze to install.
Right now, I'm pretty happy with it, but I only have maybe half a dozen products. I think I can see in the future, as our product count increases, that the basic C5 "store" is going to start becoming a bit unwieldy (I have a store with all products listed, but for each product on the site, I also have an Add-To-Cart button).
(I run another smaller site that has half a dozen products, but we don't even use a cart or ecommerce system -- we just built Paypal buttons (it's not the kind of business where you buy multiple products in a cart, anyway).)
Does anyone here sell, say, a hundred or more products through their C5 store? What issues have you encountered doing so?
Alternately, does anyone use e-commerce packages OTHER THAN the C5 package. If so, what are your reasons for doing so? What questions/decisions influenced you in that direction?
I'm not trying to start up a fuss, just genuinely interested in learning more about this from people who are doing it.
Thanks!
Edward

I work for a site that has several hundred products. The issues you describe were circumvented by basing everything on product lists and not having individual product pages.
As someone that has installed, configured, upgraded, and supports hundreds of Zen Carts I would be curious to hear what the issues were that you have had with it.
I am currently working on comparing C5 core commerce with Zen Cart and will be putting together article(s) about the experience and how-to's on migrating from Zen Cart to C5+core commerce. Doing support at a E-commerce host and supporting thousands of Zen Carts I am well aware of those things that a lot of the clients look for in an E-commerce package. All experiences people have had with either setup will assist me in the process of comparing the two.
