Embedding fonts?

Permalink 1 user found helpful
I am new to Concrete5 and I noticed that when using fonts on a Web site and then viewing the site from browser to browser and computer to computer, the fonts will display differently dependent if the fonts used were on that computer or not. Is there a way to embed the fonts so they will display the same on all computers?

that's not related to Concrete5. Safari uses a different anti alias algorithm which makes font look different....

Use pictures.. (actually, don't, google won't like it)

Yes, it is related. If I use a font in Concrete5 to build a website and it is not installed on a different computer, the font will not be viewed correctly. I just tested it on another machine and unistalled the font I was using and it showed up differently. So if the font I used is not installed on the viewers computer, it does not display correctly, regardless of what browser being used. So embedding would need to be done if possible.

Remo is right that your website's fonts are not directly related to whether or not you're using Concrete5. This is one of the fun things related to all web design and development.

If you want to use a non "safe" font then you'll need to look at a replacement technique.

One popular and easy to use one is called Cufon, which uses Javascript to replace text with images of your font.
A couple of useful links to learn about and use Cufon:

Hope that helps!

I totally understand that is is not dependent on whether I am using Concrete5.. It is a machine and web thing.. I was just wondering if there is a feature in Concrete5 to embed fonts..

I don't know of an out-of-the-box or add-on solution to embed fonts with c5.

If you have some website-building experience, I think you'll be pleased with how easy and fast Cufon is to integrate. I'm talking about going from completely uninitiated to replacing text site-wide in 30 minutes or less.

Here's a site I developed using Cufon for the nav and headline text:http://saphireeventgroup.com/

Good luck!

wow, that's a really good looking site! it's got that real nice polished Flash look about it. there needs to be a Cufon block in the marketplace.

Thanks, Tony!
I can't take credit for the design — I just did the technical consultation and development... but we're all pretty pleased with the way it turned out.

Are you going to take on the Cufon block? :-)
