Expanding the member's profile
Permalink
Hi Everyone,
Do you know of an addon, or is there a way, that I can expand a member's profile so that they can add their twitter, website or other information in a standardised manner?
I know that I can add fields so that they can add the info if they wish. I'm wondering whether there is any 'standardised' method. I don't want to go down a route of adding lots of field etc and then find that it conflicts with one of the 'big' addons such as ecommerce later.
I'm purchasing addons as and when I need them (and when finances allow) so I'm trying to be as futureproof as possible.
Many thanks for any assistance.
Mike

JTF,
Thanks for your response I've only just seen it. As you know I'm looking at Magic Data with great interest, it seems to be the answer to a few of my needs. The only thing holding me up is some free time to know that I can actually explore and use it when I purchase! Coming soon I hope.
Cheers,
Mike

The limitation is that formatting is restricted to what the c5 core provides, or you need to get deeper into css to layout the display of the user attributes.
If your theme has a 'Main' content area on single pages, you can add regular blocks to the profile page. However, because it is a single page, all profiles share the same block!
My way round that is with Magic Data. That way, I can have a standard set of blocks as a template, but fill in the user-specific details from user attributes. Quite a few blocks already have Magic Data enabled templates and other blocks can be Magic Data enabled by putting them in a stack and using one of several ways to process Magic Data in a stack.
@enlil has written a few howtos that may give you some ideas.

Also have a look at the docs pages for my Sorcerer's Map addon,

Similar techniques can be used to provide many kinds of profile related information.
