file manager help, bad file name?
Hello. Installed Concrete5 last night. Off to a rough start. I tried uploading some images using the file manager. It's showing that 6 out of 20 uploaded. I noticed the one on the bottom of the list has an apostrophe in the file name. I'm thinking concrete doesn't like that. I'm unable to delete that file or any other files for that matter. I've tried deleting using the file manager and I've also jumped into ftp and deleted any and all files in the "file" and "thumbnail" folder (including all sub folders). Cleared the cache multiple times from the settings menu too.
The same six images still show in the concrete file manager. I even went so far as to uninstall and reinstall concrete on the server. Repeat I uninstalled concrete....then reinstalled concrete...and the same six images still show in the file manager.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I like the way this software is set up but I've run into constant headaches since installing. Last night the editing bar disappeared. Reinstalled concrete to fix that. I'm trying to hang in there but need to have some things just work. Thanks, Mike.

"Deleting the physical files won't remove the references from the database.."
Thanks for the reply. Wouldn't deleting physical files prevent the images from showing in file manager? Also, as far as removing references from the database...I uninstalled and reinstalled concrete. The database itself was deleted and recreated. I'd think that would remove any references.
It seems the root of the problem I was having was due to, and I'm only guessing, a file name that included an apostrophe. It seemed to lock the file manager up for over an hour. I bailed for a few hours after giving up...came back and the files I had deleted are now properly gone. I uploaded my 20 images again making sure they had proper file names. No problems there. All images shown and usable in file manager.
More problems continue though as I attempt to create a page. There seems to be such a delay before any changes you make take effect. I was adding an image and suddenly wound up with 3 of them on the page. It seems like for anything I do the steps should be...make a change....walk away for 10 mins....come back to verify the image you added or change you made is complete....repeat. You can't just bang stuff out. Not sure this is for me.

Try turning off all caches whilst you are developing your site, you are probably being served cached data that can be rather confusing at times.
Oh, and remember to clear your browser cache.
I hope this helps..

Thanks, turning off those caches now and giving it a try. Thanks for the Tip!
wow I'm stuck in a horrible loop. first cleared caches as suggested. seems like a good idea. Ok then tried to edit the page... just tried to delete one of the double images I'd inserted..."access denied". Ok no problem, I've been running into this already, must need to log out and back in. Click the log out button on both editor and dashboard and get "Invalid form token. Please reload this form and submit again." I can't log out of the page. I've cleard the browser cache...closed the browser....each time I bring up the site I'm already logged in...can't edit anything "access denied"...and also can't log out of the site.
This sounds like the server is running a cache system in the backend, something like Varnish Cache or CacheWall or similar.
Ask your server admins to turn off any such cache system.
If the server is a LightSpeed server the cacheing could be built-in and not switchable, in this case add this line to your htaccess file

sorry, probably more rambling now than anything helpful. changed the suggested settings yesterday, was able to upload all images i needed. working with the default theme that comes with concrete 5 I added a few images and a header. this morning i wanted to sit down and see if i could easily make a few minor tweaks. just wanted to change an image...
so I go to my site, it displays properly. i click login in the lower right, log in and am brought to my dashboard. ok, now I click on the back arrow on the upper left of the dashboard to go back to the site and use the editing bar right? when I click that arrow on the dashboard I'm brought back to the website but am not logged in. it shows me the webpage as it first looked when i opened it up. the "login" button is in the lower right. i login again, am brought to dashboard, click the back arrow....and am brought back to the site but am not logged in. no editing bar.
just tried again thinking the "stay logged in for 2 weeks" might make a difference. it doesn't.
i have concrete5 installed. i can log in to dashboard. can't edit a page. sorry, maybe rambling from a guy who doesn't know what he's doing, but seems like i should at least be able to move around the program. maybe an issue with the browser? i'm using an updated version of chrome. do others have better or worse luck with different browsers? I did open it in firefox too...same deal.
anyway, thanks for any insight.

When you are taken back to the site after clicking the little back arrow on the dashboard, what happens if you refresh your browser using Ctrl + F5 ?
oh, had my hopes up for that one! control + F5 results in the same page which is my web page with the login link at the bottom. same results...login...dashboard....back button to web page with editor....but instead it brings me to webpage with login. what am i doing wrong here?
is there another way to get to the webpage with editor after logging in successfully? that back button seems to act like the back button on the browser...which could bring up the wrong page from time to time.

Yes there is another way.
When logged in go to the dashboard > sitemap click on the home page and then click 'visit'

If you would like me to take a look just send me the web address and login details by private message..
BOOM! Thanks man. That did the trick. It was that or the 70' slip and slide I just set up. Either way, I've got an editing bar!
Your Welcome..
You could try a 'Rescan' on the files (in file manager click the file then click Properties and click Rescan) to see if that removes the database reference
