File manager search files in set

Hi
I try to delete all files in a set (and the set itself). When I go to the file manager and there to the advanced search, I can selsct the fiels 'file set'. When I do this, there are now 2 boxes for file set names instead of one. When I select a file set and hit search, I get:
Error
Call to a member function getColumnKey() on null

Is this a known bug? Any workarounds?

By the way, is there any documentation about folders in the file manager. Are the folders a alternative to sets to organise files?

Regards
Matthias

Hi tipweb,

Folders add a way to organize files.
- a file can only be in one folder at a time
- a file can be in many file sets at the same time
- a file can be in a folder and in file sets at the same time

"Does anyone encoutre the same problem, when searching all files in a set in the advanced search dialog?"

Please list the specific steps required to reproduce the error.

Hi Mr. Dilkington

Thank you for your answer.
First, I thought, the search problem is there only when I try to search files in a set (there I get towo boxes one on top of the other to specify the set name), but now I see, I always get a error, when I try to search in the files:
Call to a member function getColumnKey() on null
Maybe I have a inconsistency in the db after the different updates from version 7 to 8?

Thank you for the explanation about sets and folders. I think it would be a problem to reorganise files in folders when they are used in the webpages and in different blocks? Any experience in doing this?

Regards
Matthias

@tipweb

Have you checked the bug tracker to see if others are experiencing this issue? If no one has reported this issue, I recommend reporting it and including the specific steps required to repeat the error.

I don't believe organizing existing files into folders will change how pages and blocks use the files. They should maintain the same file ID, regardless of the folder they are in.
