Future Release Timeline

Would you please consider adding a general release timeline so we know what is being actively considered for the core so that we can have some insight as to what is coming down the line?

I am still exploring C5 while also looking into other frameworks like Symfony, CakePHP and other hosted services like GoodBarry and Square Space.

I really like C5 specifically because of the great website that you have here. However, not having access to most of the cool blocks like you are using is a little disappointing (e.g. forum, ecommerce, etc..).

I understand that you plan to release a lot of the blocks that you are using for this site, that is why I think it would be nice to have a timeline of when we can expect the releases.

For example, forum block in April, ecommerce block in June, etc...

Nothing would make me happier, if I could. To be honest, I've seen plenty of roadmaps on other project sites, but I'm not sure I've seen one that promises deadlines.

Certainly when we're doing projects for clients, there are deadlines and we do our part to make them. However, even with paying clients, requirements and situations change - and launch dates change.

We're working on concrete5 in our free time, and as we find consulting gigs that relate to the communities needs. One day maybe we'll have nothing to do but worry about the core, but that's not today.

What I can tell you is this:

The file manager is mostly done and the beta team has been poking at it.

This discussion system has been pulled out and skinned in Plain Yogurt, the beta team has been playing with it. It needs more features, but as you point out something is better than nothing.

eCommerce is realistically some time out (6 weeks+) We're working on a Magento/concrete5 integration now for a book publisher. We've got them both running on the same server at a reasonable speed, and creating a user in one creates a user in another. We also have a block that can place a product from Magento anywhere on concrete5. The idea is we'll use concrete5 for everything except the product detail and check out.

Of course, that's still just an idea. Until we actually launch at least one site with this setup, it's hard for me to even articulate to my team how we're gonna package this know-how up, put a price tag on it, and stick it in the marketplace.

I can assure you it's a high priority for me though! We're most likely going to be releasing a simple concrete5 powered shopping cart around the same time that we release the more powerful Magento powered one.

If you're interested in financing the further development of specific add-ons, or the current status of any other requested items I'm missing - I'd be happy to talk offline or here.

Except sucks about using Magento.

Magento is a great system, but it is very heavy. I have migrated from using Magento to OpenCart, OpenCart is very light weight but has a great template system.

It is lacking modules but this is growing and with OpenCart v1 come out, and OpenCart 0 has branched off to it's own system.

This would be awesome if could do similar stuff for another e-commerce system, but I am sure once this is sorted it will make it easier to implement with new systems etc.

:) Thanks c5 for all the great work you are doing.

I understand firm timelines aren't reasonable. I guess what I would like to see is what features we can expect to see. For example:

1) Forums/Community
2) Bug Tracker
3) Feature Tracker
4) Store
5) FAQ
6) Blog

I see how nice this site is and I would like to have this as a basis for sites I intend to build. My decision now revolves around if I should wait for added features or go with a different system.

Also, I would hate to start working on a C5 addon only to find that the C5 team already has something in development.

To recap, your site is the best promoter of C5. However, with a lot of these features missing from the released version it is disappointing. A clear list of features to come would ease my mind. I think others would agree.

forums/community i've been promising since the end of last year.

bugtracker/feature tracker are the same thing - and im not sure if they're going to be part of the forums/community or just kind of sit in limbo for a while. no one has asked me for them.

store, I've talked about a lot in these forums.

FAQ is a good idea, but also has never come up. we're actually doing some thinking around that for some other things were dinking around with here, so i wouldn't be shocked to see a QA/FaQ summary block architecture appear in the marketplace in the next month or two...

Blog I've talked about to death in here. The furthest we're going to take this is revisit the demo site with a "blog looking thing." I feel no need to recreate wordpress in concrete5 and i've made myself rather vocal on it.

If you are wondering if we're working on anything else, or if we intend to, I'm more than happy to oblige, all you have to do is ask.

what I can't to is tell you "first you're gonna get this on such and such date, then that right after.." etc. While I totally recognize this would be nice to know, for all of us, its simply not the way we work - for any number of reasons.

Again, if you have a project you'd like us to help with, or you need some element of this stuff sooner rather than later and want to contribute your development effort and or monies to that end - I'm all ears.
