Guest permissions

I can't see the point of having or displaying permissions for Guest users.
Trying to give Edit/Writer permissions for guest just doesn't work.
The error message 'Another user is currently editing this page.' shows immediately, the moment a Guest user clicks on 'Edit page' (see attached screenshot).
Also, no matter what permissions I give to Guest, only the 'Edit page' shows.
So:
1. Is any permissions other than 'Read' reasonable for Guest users?
2. Would it be useful to enable these permissions for Guest users, to have a Wiki like style?
Your thoughts are highly appreciated.

Any one? Any feedback on this?
yea, i know what you mean, you have to manually go into the tables to "checkin" the page i think it should be greyed out
well this sounds like a issue of simply crippling the options, I dont think we're going to technically want someone who hasn't logged in making edits to pages.... its one thing to let anyone login and change stuff, but with page locking i'm not sure how a non-logged in editing experience would even work out... no?
Right. Any one who needs any permission other than Read or View, should be at least registered and logged in.
So, my point is why is Guest permissions, other than Read/View, displayed while it's useless? Is there any use of it?
If not, maybe we should just disable/remove them. It's needless.

yea, because if anything, someone is going to end up messing a page and getting pi*sed off at c5
...as a less-than-advanced user this had me puzzled too. I thought I was misunderstanding something.
EDIT: I was thinking in terms of the file manager - not permissions to view/edit a page. Regarding file permissions, I now can see the advantage of allowing guests permissions to view/edit guest files as it acts as sort of a demo of what's inside - once you log in as a user and gain the private ability to edit your own files.

I think there are cases where you want guests to edit pages (think wikipedia). It should work correctly however. Why not just switch off strict locking in this case? (there is definitely way to work with locking - just have a look at dokuwiki or any wiki implementation - basically, you check at moment of saving the page whether it has been edited meanwhile).
Oh, i'm sad reading this. I wanted to build a site with exactly this feature with C5. It's still valid that I have to let the users register at the site.. mhh. sad
