Installing APC on a Debian Server

Hi everyone. I am currently struggling (greatly) with installing apc on my host's server. I want to get something out of the way first, I am a complete noob when it comes to programming, scripting and the like so please be patient with me. I need an extremely detailed guide step-by-step on where to even begin. My host is iPage. I have already read through multiple threads on concrete5 and literally tens of other websites to figure out where to even start. (Sad, right?) If anybody can give me even a little direction I would GREATLY appreciate it.

Update: I've come across some more information after digging up website after website on the internet (and still not receiving assistance), and learned that I would have to download some sort of "catalyst" to be able to send all of the apc files to my server. Not sure what that all means but again, I'm not sure how to approach this at all and it is very important that I get this done soon.

In my opinion the most convenient way is through PECL.

So, just install build tools and PECL, then PECL does the job for you just by writing "pecl install apc".

I would think there are multiple guides over the internet if you just search with "debian pecl install apc" or "debian install pecl" or similar search terms.

Best,

Thank you for responding! What concerns me is that my host is iPage and there are some restrictions on what I can and can't do and I don't know if that will effect what I'm trying to do outside of it. I'll do some hunting with those search terms. But I could really use a boost in my website's speed. Again I appreciate the response and I'll get back to you soon.

If you have the virtual box (or dedicated server) for yourself, I think you should be able to fully control it and install software on it.

Otherwise I would suggest switching to another hosting provider.

Thank you for the replies and the advice. I think it's gonna be best to switch to a different hosting provider. A small price to pay for running an efficient business which is (in the end) what I want. iPage is pretty restrictive on certain levels and I can only access certain files (such as concrete5 files). I'll try a few others things before doing that. Maybe I'll get lucky.

Thanks again!
