Is C5 difficult or is it me?

I can't find any answers to anything I swear, I do searches and they all lead to the same answers! (zero step by step type of answers)

For example I get this when I click on edit:

"This block is an alias of Page Defaults. Editing it here will "disconnect" it so changes to Page Defaults will no longer affect this block."

And there is NO WAY I can find where is the default page or how I can edit it. There is no EASY way to find out anything about C5.
I'm so frustrated!!

All I want is to remove one link from navigation, and I just cant find it!!

Ok this is a lot easier than it seems.

If you need to change something that you can't find in the menu that pops up when you click on it, go to the Dashboard. The Dashboard is like a Control Panel, if you are familiar with Windows operating system.

Another very helpful thing is the Intelligent Search feature located up by the Dashboard button. If you type a keyword into this it will return the different things that may match what you need. It also gives a list of different links to help concerning what you typed in.

To remove a link from a navigation, I would need to see a screenshot of that area to see exactly what you need done.

Don't give up on C5. It is a very powerful suite that can build wonderful sites. It may take a bit until it clicks in your head and then boom, it will be a lot easier! I guarantee.

I recommend getting a copy of Remo's book. For anyone new to concrete5 it makes a great tutorial and basic reference.

I have never heard of that. Where do you get it?

I got the kindle version on amazon.com. It was helpful, although I wish it had gone more in depth into how concrete 5 works behind the scenes.

I am assuming that, in view of your bock edit statement, you are trying to remove an existing page from the menu that is built into / added to your page type, So... instead of trying to edit the menu:

1) remove or hide a page from navigation from the page itself. Navigate to page in question > Hover over "EDIT" in upper left and see the catagory "Properties" in the dropdown > Click "Properties" and then select the tab for "Custom Attributes" where you'll likely find an option for "hide from navigation" > select that and save. Refresh cache if necessary and Viola - no page showing on menu. **This can also be done from the Sitemap view in the dashboard.

Hope this helps :)

Thx for the replay. It looks like this should be it, but so far it's still there. I cleared the cache (in global settings) I'm not sure if that is what you meant?

No problem... glad to help.
Just to be sure: After clicking on "Exclude from Nav", you must tic the box that now appears on the right (see the image I attached) and then select "Save".
Your site cache is normally found in Dashboard > Systems & Settings > Optimization if you are using the current version of C5, but it is sometimes helpful to clear your browser cache as well if changes are not immediately visable ( Ctrl F5)

Thank you again for your answers. Indeed it was the check mark I've missed at first.
It did delink the page, but it linked to another one, all by itself!!! It's "ALIVE" and wants to be linked to something. Any idea how to stop that outright?

I'm super happy now. I got it the way I wanted it! I've changed Page Redirect to parent page and that will do! Thx a lot for pointing me in the right direction!!

Now, I've got about 3 more problems can I ask in this thread, or should I make another!?

I've got 2 urgent ones and 3rd one is meh, whenever.

TIA

Not sure where you're coming from.

If you're new to content management systems, then simply getting a handle on all the work that a CMS does for you has a significant learning curve.

It's true, C5 has complexity, and it's not as well documented as it could be, and sometimes people don't have all the answers.

In spite of those issues, I've found that C5 maps about as well as any CMS to the task of developing a web-site, has the most user-friendly interface for editing, and, in sum, provides a top environment for simple as well as sophisticated website development.

There are seeming deadends. But, feel free to post. We've all been there...

I'm coming from a complete noob position. I can assemble computers and install system, etc. so they asked me if I could look into the web site. Of course I wanna shine so I said "sure"!

lol... let no good deed go unpunished :)
Glad the menu worked out. It would be best if you started a new thread for other issues (makes it easier to search/research when others have similar problems)
