Members Section ( Pages )

I am having a major problem with my Members section ( or pages ) ...,.After entering my info on my profile page, I " Save It " Then that is when the problem occurs.
My info on my profile page, appears there just as it should. BUT, not only is my info on my profile page, It also appears on everyone else's profile page as well.
I received this info in a reply from Franz:
" It sounds like you're saying that everyone is getting the same profile data, which to me sounds like you've broken something or are using a feature in an way it wasn't intended."
Well the thing is, since there are quite a few things that I do not understand at all how to do, when I run across these things, I do not change anything or do anything. If I do not know what something is about, I do not mess with it.
I need an answer here. I need to know what is wrong, and I need to know what to do to correct this problem. AND,,,I do not have the money to pay someone on the staff here to go in and find out, and take care of it.
Can anyone please help me ???

Let me start at the top.
Well, I think that I must have enabled public profiles, otherwise they would not be there,,,right ? ( I really do not know,. or remember if I did )
Yes I am viewing them through the members page, and each member has a different user ID.
As to rather or not I have installed any addons which might have replaced the profile single_page or controller, I would have to reply that I do not know. I have absolutely no idea what the profile single_page or controller is.
But then, I do not know what at lot of things are on here. I am completely new to all of this, and do not know the wording or what it means in many cases.
At the beginning, my partner was the first person to enter his information on his profile page, and he is totally unavailable now to reach. I did not go to the members page to enter any of my information on my profile page until much later. When I did, I saw that his info was entered on not only his profile page, but mine as well, both as admin, and personal.
So I went about changing the info on my personal profile page, and saved it. Then I went to my admin profile page, only to find that the info from my personal pro page was now there as well, so I checked around and found that my info had also replaced his, as well as appearing on other pro pages.
No matter what I did, this remained the case. So, did this ever work ? Well, it worked in the manner I just described. And no, there has been nothing in my environment that has just changed.
So, this is where it stands as of now. I have no idea why, I have no idea where to look, and/or what to do.

Is there a link to this site that you could provide so that people here could see it? This might help people get a better idea of the problem.
I think I can clarify the issue that TheCandOFansite is witnessing.
Data entered on the User profile pages via the User and Groups section of the dashboard, either through the default values or additional attributes displays fine and is individual per profile page.
The duplication is due to the fact that these pages are actually a single page with dynamic data being fed into it from the profile.
Therefore, if you have your own profile.php single page and add say a 'bio - all about me' Area to that where the users can add content in the usual front-end type way, this content will be the same across all profiles because it is a single page.
I too have the desire to do what TheCandOFansite is trying to do as I want my users to enter most data on their profiles through flexible Areas so they can use the front-end and I don't need to set up attributes for everything.
I guess the question boils down to whether we can have a profile as a page type instead of single page and an instance of that page type is created per user.
Thoughts?

My thoughts are that this sounds very believable. And somehow someway actually makes sense to me.
I do not understand why it is that users would be provided with their own profile pages when they cannot even control what is on their page. To me, this is a big waste of space, as well as extra work for the site owner being that we have to create attributes for these pages just so that they will work correctly.
And on my part, creating attributes is something that I just do not have any understanding of. I have tried to figure these out to no avail. Someone even sent me to a page here that explained attributes, but I was still left asking just what they are for and what they do.
An example of what I am saying is: Select. Ok, it is a yes or no button/box/whatever, well that is good to know. But what do you use it for, what does it do, and why ? It is the same for me with the rest. I am at a complete loss when it comes to attributes, User ones or Page ones. It all might as well be written in Maya hieroglyphs.
What I need is a very simple step by step explanation of both how to do these thing, and exactly what they are, and what they are used for. In plain and simple English for someone who has absolutely no understanding of any type or knowledge of websites, or any of the terminology used.
My thoughts ? Just give us User profile pages that are automatically able to be used by the user. No Attributes, no setting up attributes, and nothing to do with attributes at all !!!
Just simple pages that actually work !!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I can provide a link to the website, no problem for me.....
As long as viewing a Fansite for the two most famous Gay characters in TV history is no problem for you or anyone else who might go there.
Because, I will not tolerate ignorance by anyone, for any reason...So to whoever, if Gays are, and/or the Gay lifestyle is a problem for you, then just stay away !

Hi everyone,
I understand the problems TheCandOFansite is facing.
The idea of the member area is to allow site users to communicate with each other and update some personal information about themselves. However every site has their own needs in a members area, thats where User Attributes come in. User Attributes are easy to set up and allow the site manager to decide what information a user can add about themselves.
If you add content to the profile page using edit mode you are just updating the blocks on the Single Page called Profile (you can see that this is just one page in the sitemap if click "Show System Pages"). This is why when you add content to the page in edit mode it will show on every profile page.
In answer to dbaggs point it would not be a good idea to have several a page type for every user because imagine the number of Page Types this would create. Also it is not really what page types are meant for. I think what you really mean is why are new single pages not created every time a new profile is added, however this is not really necessary as it is way too much to allow Joe Bloggs member to start adding blocks to their page.
I am sure you can do everything you need to do from the standard set up. If you think it would help I am happy to do a screencast demonstrating how to use User Attributes.
Just let me know

Hey Bruno,
Just thought I'd point out that I'm not suggesting a Page Type per user but rather a Page Type *instance* per user. e.g. A "Profile" Page Type used for each user instead of a Profile Single Page as it is at the moment.
Regards,
Dan

Yes, I do believe that this would be beneficial to me, and possibly others as well, who may have the same lack of knowledge that I do.
Thank you, I appreciate this.
Thank you, I appreciate this.
no problem, I will try to get this done over the next few days. I wil post this link here when its done.
Thank you,
I appreciate this very much. And take what time you need to do this. Yes of course I would like to be able to resolve this as quickly as possible, however, I am not going anywhere, and neither is my website. We are in it for the long haul.
I am aware that Rome was not built in a day.

It is impossible to troubleshoot this without more information. I assume you have enabled public profiles? How are you viewing these profiles (through the Members page)? Look at the url for each member on the member page. It should say something like sitename/index.php/profile/view/# where # is the user id number. Is the id# different for each user when you look at the url? If you are seeing the same data for everyone, it makes me wonder if the correct userid is getting passed in.
Have you installed any addons which might have replaced the profile single_page or controller?
Did this ever work? If so, did anything in your environment just change?
