Monitor Settings for Design

WOW.......

I for one sometimes do not test my sites in multiple screen resolutions. It is something I just don't think about.

I just viewed some C5 sites on 800x600. YUCK!!!! but still should design for them.

So I am wondering what other resolutions designers use for developing their sites. I know this sounds so basic but all the designs people have shown on here look as though they are designing for 1024x768.

Is this the trend designers for C5 are using?

I know frz....but a lot of PC users (older ones and they are out there) are using a screen resolution of 800.....sounds odd but true...anyone with a pc of 2 yrs or newer are using 1024 (normally) but then for those people using "Handicapped" utilities...many are using 800x600 still...

I actually design at 1200...i think it looks better

There is more just the desktop PC. Think netbook, iPhone, G1.

wltr, you are very correct in that. But for me, small business consulting doesn't really apply to doing things for mobile devices. Call it crazy, but most small businesses don't want to pay for the additional costs.

I must admit, I am very ignorant (for now) on browser technology for mobile devices. But willing to learn :)

in our "top 10" screen res list with 2.38% of the vote, but it's fair to say that is way down from 2 years ago where it was maybe 8% or some such.

Best option (IMO) is to design for 760-800 "Content DIV" and anything outside is embellishment or non-essential. Might be cut off in 800x600, but the main area still viewable without scrolling.

1.1024x768 30.64%
2.1280x800 23.12%
3. 1280x1024 10.06%
4. 1440x900 8.62%
5. 1680x1050 8.38%
6. 320x396 2.63%
7. 1152x864 2.51%
8. 800x600 2.38%
9. 1920x1200 2.34%
10. 1280x960 1.77%

dude, a larger percentage is running at 320x326 -what is that the iphone?

regardless. this is a theme issue. design yer own theme at whatever u want.
