Multiple Menus, sitemap, and SEF urls

Hello,
I am trying to setup multiple menus on a new website but I can get the urls to be the way I want them to be.

What currently is happening

menu 1
About
Careers
News

Menu 2
Product info
Benefits
Case Studies
Contact

Now i can get this to work with auto menu if I put menu 1 items inside another article so then tell the system to look only under that folder.

This works fine except the urls are then

/foldername/about
/foldername/careers

What I want is just
/about
/careers

I tried it with aliases but that didnt work.

Is there a correct way to get it so you can have 2 menus and clean urls?

Thanks

If you're not interested in honoring the site tree, I'd consider just hard coding the "menus" by using the content block and making them links by hand. ... or at least do that for one of the navs..

we'll frequently do something like that for a primary navigation across the top and then let the secondary navigation be built by whatever pages are in the node you're viewing.
