Novice - Microsoft Publisher and C5

I used publisher to create an entire website, I don't know how to get it onto Concrete 5. I have a website URL and Concrete 5 hooked up to it. I was left this after a guy helping me on this end decided to bailout. I have an html file which shows up as (firefox page) it opens and works. I have another file containing all the individual pieces of that large publisher site, however, now how do I get my site on Concrete 5 to be what I created through publisher?

If I understand what you want to do correctly, you'll need to export your site so that it is html, then choose one or more of those html pages to convert to a C5 theme. You'll need to watch as Microsoft application html exports often contain a load of MS formatting that adds weight to your page.

You'll then need to create the page structure in C5 and copy paste in your content.

On the theme and the MS formatting, it might be easier to just start again, rather than try and convert Publisher html output to a clean c5 theme.

Good luck

Thanks for the response...Ollie

I am challenged in the area of using a different program like dreamweaver to make a css, nonetheless trying to make it into a theme. I used MS publisher because I could actually get exactly what I wanted without having to deal with learning something far more complex.

Is there something like WYSWYG to create a theme where I do not deal with code or things that would take me months to understand, given that I seem to be a slow learner with the internets?

Unfortunately not - you will need at least some understanding of html and css in order to convert your publisher document into a C5 theme. Myself and many others on this forum would be happy to build the theme for you, however, it's unlikely it will be for free.

If I was in your position and had invested in the MS Publisher approach, I'd probably treat Publisher as my CMS and just export, and upload it when I made changes.

I'd then be thinking about how the next version of my site might look, what features I'd like, what CMS it would use (C5 of course) and look to build/migrate to that down the line, rather than convert publisher output to C5.

Thanks Ollie,

That makes much more sense at this point. I will figure out how to do that, and look forward to the next steps when I actually will need others to update on a CMS.

Thanks for chiming in, the frustration has eased...

Not sure I helped, but pleased if I did.

Re the site - I like the colour scheme and logo!
