Page stuck in weird edit mode 5.5.1
Permalink
I'm building out a site with a new install of 5.5.1 (not an upgrade) and have been editing pages with no problem until I ran into a problem where one page appears to be stuck in edit mode, but I can't actually edit any blocks on that page - nor can I see any of the menus in the white main tool bar on top.
Existing blocks have the red, dashed lines that indicate I can edit them, but I can't select anything in these blocks.
If I navigate to any of the other pages in this new site, I can edit and save changes with no problem. I can also view and click on the "edit" and "dashboard" links on top. So, it's just this one page that is acting up.
I've tried clearing the site cache a number of times and I've cleared my browser cache and using different browsers and computers, but this one page is stuck in this weird mode on all systems/browsers.
Since there isn't much content on this particular page it isn't an issue deleting it and just starting over, but I'd like to know if I did something that caused this so I can avoid having to delete any pages in the future.
Thanks : -)

This is an annoying bug that has proven difficult to fix. If you see it in the future here's a quick way to fix it: Click "edit" on the page, let the page refresh, then exit edit mode again. That should clear the page from being in that weird half-edit state.
Thanks, Andrew. Initially, even the "edit" button wasn't displaying so I couldn't click it. Clearing the site cache brought it back, but (at the time) I'm not sure if I had tried exiting edit mode again. However, if it happens again I'll try that.
Glad you know it's a bug, I thought it was my browser. It's been bugging me for days!
My home page is stuck in edit with no javascript working after attempting to add a proevents list. Some kind of jquery conflict disables all dropdowns in the editor so I can't even get to the exit edit mode that I need to. Maybe add an "Exit Edit Mode" to the main c5 bar so we aren't relying on javascript when it's not working?
Wonder if going back to 5.4 or an earlier 5.5 would prevent this?

I don't think you have the same bug as above. At this stage, unless the last thing you did was to upgrade to 5.5.1, reverting may not be the best solution.
To diagnose the immediate problem, use the developer console to look at what scripts are loaded and in what order to find out why.
(diagnose as above first, just so you don't get the same again later) To recover the immediate problem, go straight into the dashboard>sitemap>(select page)>versions and go back to a version of the problem page before you had the script error.
You can get there directly by entering
http://www.yoursite.com/index.php/dashboard/sitemap/full/...

I attempted reverting to a previous page version via sitemap initially, but not until I uninstalled pro events did it allow me to edit the page again. I will work with the developer of this add-on specifically it looks like to resolve the js conflict going on.
Once I removed my link to jquery, problem solved. One too many jquery references screw-balled the whole plugin.
